Note: This review is bit spoiler-y. I'm sorry, but I had to express my feelings, but I tried to be vague and not spoil everything. - _ - This novel has a lot of heart and packs it in a short punch. Where most novels have a few chapters to essentially waste at the beginning setting up the story, this one it starts off in the middle of their lives and the story. It jumps over a large section of time, but I was totally OK with that, because we got glimpses into the jump and they are deeply felt within the story line. At times I my throat was tight with emotion, but this book was worth reading. I am glad to have found a new author to add to my line-up. Although, the price is maybe a little tiny bit high for the shortness of the novel, I have to say that it was well worth it. I absolutely loved this novel and I will be reading it again and again. Really, this novel got to me in ways few have before. By the way, it IS a hot erotica / bdsm novel. A MUST READ!!! {~~Spoiler alert~~} The harshness of the fight that starts off the novel felt very real (the vindictiveness of his response to her). The interaction between them in the next chapter, just about gutted me.Product details

Sopie Oak does it again. I am often hesitant to purchase a book with no reviews or does not have a true sample of the book. Based on the very brief synopsis in the so called sample. I went out on a limb and purchased this book based on my previous knowledge of Ms. Oak's work. I was not disappointed in the least.
The main character's are in a committed D/s relationship. There is a understanding that a offer of marriage will never be given and love will never professed.
In the beginning we find Gabby asking her Dom Cal if he loved her and ask's about marriage.When Cal insists that Gabby knew from the beginning he would never marry or offer love. Cal's first wife died a year before Gabby and Cal committed to a D/s relaationship and those options were no longer on the table.
Gabby decides to leave Cal. Cal is then brought face to face with the reality that she will no longer be in his life.
Ten months later, Cal finds Gabby at his best friend's birthday party. He learn's the truth of why Gabby left him and decides to confront her.
Find out the truth behind Gabby's reason for leaving. And journey with this duo on a road of heartache and love. Both have to face the truth that they were both wrong and need to repair the damage.
I immediatly fell in love with these two. A heart warming but super hot tale. The sexual chemistry is interwoven with a wonderful story. Thankfully the super hot sex scenes do not over power the super strong message in this tale.
Yetwe find the truth in the most amazing places and find that not only our sub is vulnerable but so is her Dom.
Wow! This book really toyed with my emotions. I had only heard about Callum and Gabby briefly in one of the others stories. I was excited when I realized they had their own story. It was a pure short joy to read and I really hated it to end. Callum is sexy and dominate. I absolutely couldn't help myself when he puts Tabby over his shoulder. It's just completely hot when he leaves his life behind to go and get the woman he loves back. Well unfortunately I have read all the Texas and Colorado sagas. All I can do now is wait anxiously for Oak to write a new story.
I like this author, that's why I bought the book. I thought the price was a bit high for the shortness of the story.
The character of Cal is despicable at the beginning, it was nice that he became more compassionate as the book progressed. I liked the character Gaby, it was easy to see why people liked her, helped her and sided with her against Cal at the beginning.
A good story, I wish it had been longer. It was nice that she didn't drag it out unnecessarily, it wasn't rushed, but I wanted it to last longer.
I feel like I won the lottery after I finished reading this book. It was the second novella in a week that I don't feel lost anything due to its shorter length. There was absolutely nothing missing in this book. I didn't feel somehow cheated after I finished it as I have so very many times in the past after finishing a novella.
Sophie Oak used an obvious gift of storytelling to give the reader complex characters and a well-defined story. I felt the pain that the two leading characters went through and was decidedly pleased when they realized they could work things out. The issues the two of them had were believable and relatable.

While I wanted to strangle Cal at times during this story, he was well written and fully fleshed out, which is to say, he was compelling. This is very much a character driven story.
This author is also a skilled writer, which I appreciate. No drastic breaks in grammar or spelling mistakes. My one suggestion is to use more power language in place of the 'was doing this or was doing that'. She was blushing and panting? No, no, and Hell no. She blushed and panted.
The story was short for a novella, but much longer than a short story. Despite the length, it delivered a story bigger than the page count.
A good book that is worth the price, for sure. I'll be reading more work from this author.

While at first I didn't care for Callum's character. It shows just how good of a writer Sophie Oak is. Because I couldn't decide if I wanted to smack Cal or just dump ice cold water over him for the way he talked to Gabrielle. By the time the story ends and you hear both Gabrielle & Callum's full story, I wanted to give him a big hug, ok after I smacked him.
They have been in a D/s. relationship for 3 years and she is wanting more. She wants to feel loved and wants marriage. He has been married once before and lost his first wife and has decided never to get married again. He refuses to even tell her he loves her and she decides to leave. He feels more that it was a power play on her part, but Gabrielle has a major secret. And while it breaks her heart to leave the only man she ever loved she feels she has no choice.
For a fairly short novel this book packs a major story into it. You feel passion, arrogance, love, sadness, cruelty, love, forgiveness and hope.
